Steam guide written for Dear Esther Partially intended as a defense of Dear Esther, this walkthrough collates various details of the game. Reception was incredibly positive (totaling a 5 star rating after some 750 ratings) and community engagement was high, with around 150 comments from individuals of numerous backgrounds. Having written the original article in 2013, before I started my degree in Games Design - revisiting the article in 2016 gave me mixed feelings as to its content. It was an interesting experience seeing how my perception of games had changed, with a design focus meaning that I was somehow removed from the perspective of consumer that I previously had. As a result I updated the walkthrough to reflect my more recent views. However, even now I feel that the current content is beginning to seem lightweight, with new perspectives shedding yet more light on nuances of games design. There's always more to discover.
